The Realmac Addons area is built to help you promote and market your creations for RapidWeaver. In a similar vein to the App Store, all submissions are reviewed by the Realmac team prior to approval. However, please note that we do not perform QA testing on submissions and you must always perform your own testing and verification of submissions.
The quality of your submissions directly reflects on both RapidWeaver, the trust placed in the Addons listings, and on the wider RapidWeaver community. We expect you to take the time to make sure that your Addons are not only free of defects, but that the marketing collateral is of an equally high quality.
This style guide is a living document, and we will continue to revise it. If you have any feedback about how we improve the Addons area, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
We strongly recommend you to read this entire style guide thoroughly - there are some especially important bits of legalese that we must draw your attention to under “Trademarks” and “Use of Artwork”.
Above all, however, thanks for your interest in developing for RapidWeaver. There’s a phenomenal community of RapidWeaver developers and customers, and hopefully this style guide will help you create and share amazing things for RapidWeaver.
Registering for the Addons area
Developers can register at http://realmacsoftware.com/addons/register - please ensure that all the information is kept up to date, as the contact information will be used to inform you of the review status of your addons. There is no charge to register as a developer, and we do not charge developers to list their addons.
Advertising
The Realmac Addons area does offer advertising slots. These are listed on BuySellAds. Advertising plays no role in the Editorial areas of the Addon site (such “Staff Picks”).
Staff Picks
As with the App Store, the Staff Picks are hand-selected by the Realmac team. They’re entirely independent of advertising or any other influence and their simple goal is to highlight the best Addons in the RapidWeaver community.
Copy
The copy you submit should be carefully crafted, and not just a bullet-point list. Here’s some common things we notice in approving submissions:
- Terrible grammar It’s / its, don’t / dont. We may choose to reject an addon whose copy is lacking, and request you fix it.
- Sloppy copy Take the time to structure your copy. Take these two examples, bearing in mind we’re exaggerating for effect
Popup stack
This stack will blow you’re mind. launches popover window when prompted. customisable images. Supports stacks1 and stacks 2, as well as making lightbox.
vs
The Incredible Popup Stack!
The incredibly annoying Popup stack will blow your mind! Simply add the Popup stack to your page and visitors will see an annoying popup window open when they scroll down your page! Not only can the webpage address for the popup window be customised, but you can specify how far down the page the user needs to scroll before the new window opens. For extra user annoyance you can also trigger a lightbox with an image instead of opening a new window - great if you’re wanting to bug people who visit your page about a questionnaire! The Incredible Popup stack supports Stacks v1, but for best results we recommend you use it with Stacks 2 and RapidWeaver 5.
Each addon is different, but taking the time to make something read well helps the overall presentation of your product.
Get Names Right
RapidWeaver, Realmac Software, Stacks 2, Plugins, Themes, Stacks.
We will reject submissions that mis-spell or mis-capitalise key words.
Screenshots
All addon submissions must include screenshots. We expect all plugin / stack screenshots to:
- show the plugin’s stack main view in the context of the main RapidWeaver window
- for the RapidWeaver window to be the active window the in the screenshot (the gems should, where applicable to the screenshot, be their coloured states).
- the desktop should be shown in the screenshot
- the general presentation of the screenshot should be clear and clutter free. Tidy menu bar, desktop etc.
If in doubt, refer to the RapidWeaver screenshots in the Mac App Store.
For themes, screenshots should show simply the theme itself, or the options of the theme in action. Screenshots of themes shown to be in browsers (or simply desktop screenshots) must not be used. Images of responsive themes in screenshots are permitted, though we recommend that only one or two shots per addon show the theme in any sort of any mobile device 'chrome'.
Should you choose to show responsive design surrounded by an Apple device, please ensure you follow the Apple Developer Marketing Guidelines.
We will reject any addon screenshots that show RapidWeaver as the inactive window.
To help you prepare your screenshots for submission, we will in future offer a Photoshop PSD with example layers and guides.
Icons
All Addon icons must be original artwork. We strongly advise developers to avoid using text (stylised or otherwise) in an icon as these do not scale to the resolutions used in the Addons area, and may lead to your submission being rejected.
Addon Review
The Realmac Team check for new Addons at the beginning and end of each working day (UK time), and addons are normally reviewed within one business day.
In the event of your Addon being rejected, you’ll receive an email from the Realmac team detailing the further action that may be required for your submission.
Release Dates
Setting a release date when submitting your Addon will mean that, should the Addon be approved, it will be listed on the Addons area from that date. If you do not enter a release date, the addon will be displayed online immediately after it is approved.
N.B. Setting a release date does not guarantee that an addon will be reviewed by that date.
Trademarks
RapidWeaver is a registered trademark of Realmac Software Limited, and is registered in the United States. Any of your own product pages - that is, pages away from your Addons listing - must acknowledge this trademark if using the term RapidWeaver. A mention in the footer and use of ® at the end of the word RapidWeaver® is all that is necessary.
If you’re thinking of starting a new Addon company we strongly advise developers to be original in their naming as we cannot allow names to collide with the registered RapidWeaver trademark. No matter what you choose, you should ensure the name does not suggest you are endorsed by, or associated with, Realmac Software.
Use of Artwork
We go to great lengths to design amazing artwork and icons for RapidWeaver, and all artwork in RapidWeaver is copyrighted. This technically includes the RapidWeaver icon itself.
In order to avoid confusing (or potentially misleading) users, we politely request that all developers refrain from using any original artwork from RapidWeaver itself, with the exception of the RapidWeaver icon which we do allow third-party developers to use. However, developers must not use the RapidWeaver artwork (including the RapidWeaver icon) to suggest you may be endorsed by or associated with Realmac Software. Undo no circumstances should the primary company identity (or avatars on sites such as Twitter) use artwork found within RapidWeaver.
